MiAnnArbor.com is an independent guide to Ann Arbor and the towns around it. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to get your information changed or removed. It is written to be read rather than to be impressive, so if anything here is unclear, email hello@miannarbor.com and ask.
Listings we created without you
Most of the businesses on this site never signed up. We built the directory from publicly available information, which means there is very likely a page about a business whose owner has never heard of us. We think that is a reasonable way to build a local guide, and we also think it comes with an obligation.
So: if a listing about your business is wrong, or you would rather it did not exist, email hello@miannarbor.com and say so. We will correct it or take it down. You do not need an account, you do not need to explain yourself, and we will not try to talk you out of it.
What we collect
- If you create an account or claim a listing: your name, email address, password, and whatever business details you enter. Claims are reviewed by a person before they are approved.
- If you pay for something: your billing details go to Stripe, which processes the payment. We never see or store your full card number. We keep a record of what was bought and when.
- If you email us or use a contact form: whatever you send, kept so we can reply.
- If you subscribe to emails: your email address, until you unsubscribe.
- Automatically, when anyone visits: standard web analytics through Google Analytics, plus the server and security logs any website keeps. This is aggregate traffic data, not an attempt to identify you personally.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of outside services, and your information reaches them only so far as they need it to do their job:
- Stripe for payments, including Amazon Pay, Klarna, Affirm, Link and Cash App where offered at checkout.
- Kinsta for hosting and Cloudflare for security, including the challenge that stops bots submitting forms.
- Google Analytics for traffic figures.
- MailPoet to send email you have asked for.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not hand your email address to the businesses listed here.
Cookies
The site sets cookies to keep you signed in, remember what is in a cart, and count visits. You can block or delete them in your browser. If you block the ones that keep you signed in, signing in stops working.
Keeping and deleting
Account and order records are kept while the account exists and afterwards only as long as needed for tax and accounting. Analytics data is retained in aggregate. Email us to see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, and we will do it.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
