Fleetwood Diner
The one that never closes. Fleetwood Diner at 300 S Ashley is a genuine 1949 stainless-steel diner car, open around the clock, seven days a week. The move here is the Hippie Hash – hash browns loaded with grilled vegetables, feta, and pita, the thing every University of Michigan alum orders the second they are back in town.
It seats maybe twenty inside plus a few patio tables, so mornings can crowd. It is worth the elbows. This is the most Ann Arbor breakfast on the list, and at 3am or 7am the griddle is going.

It opens at 7am every day, which makes it a reliable early stop before heading north out of town or over to the medical campus.

Nick’s Original House of Pancakes
If the table wants pancakes the size of the plate, go to Nick’s Original House of Pancakes at 3030 Lohr Circle on the south side. The menu runs long – buttermilk stacks, crepes, skillets, omelets folded around whatever you point at – and the portions are built for people who came hungry.
It sits near the I-94 hotels, which makes it the easy answer for anyone starting a Saturday from that side of town.

Benny’s Family Dining
Benny’s Family Dining at 1952 S Industrial is a straight-ahead family diner: eggs any way, biscuits and gravy, a griddle that does not overthink it, and a bill that stays friendly. It runs 7am to 3pm daily, breakfast served the whole time.
This is the no-drama pick – counter service energy, fast coffee refills, out the door on time.

Bell’s Diner
Bell’s Diner at 2167 W Stadium is the west-side surprise: a classic American breakfast with a Korean kitchen behind it. Order the standard omelet and it is great, or lean into the kimchi fried rice and the bibimbap-adjacent plates that make this the most interesting breakfast on Stadium.
It opens at 8am most days and gets going at 6:30am on Saturday for the early crowd.

Village Kitchen
Village Kitchen at 241 N Maple is a homemade-everything diner where the regulars have their booths and the servers know the orders. Skillets, house corned beef hash, and pancakes that arrive fast. Daily 7am to 3pm.
It anchors the Maple Village side of town, so it pairs with errands better than a downtown wait ever will.

Juicy Kitchen
For the lighter, produce-forward version of breakfast, Juicy Kitchen at 1506 N Maple is the local favorite. Scrambles built on fresh vegetables, house granola, tofu and gluten-free options that are actually good, and a following that lines up on weekends.
One catch worth knowing: it is closed Monday and Tuesday, opens 7am Wednesday through Friday, and shifts to 8am on the weekend. Plan around it and you eat well.

The Hen
The cafe that used to be Stray Hen now trades as The Hen at 403 E Washington, a few blocks off the downtown core. Bright, small, and squarely a breakfast-and-lunch room: egg sandwiches, scrambles, good toast, and a coffee program that takes itself a little seriously in the best way.
It opens at 8am and closes on Wednesday, so make it a Thursday-through-Tuesday plan.

Afternoon Delight
A downtown staple since the 1970s, Afternoon Delight at 251 E Liberty does the healthy end of breakfast better than almost anyone: house granola, fresh-fruit crepes, egg-white scrambles, and smoothies that predate the trend by decades. It opens at 8am, 8:30am on Sunday, and takes Monday off.
Central, calm, and easy to walk to from anywhere downtown – a good first stop before a day on Main Street.

The Songbird Cafe
Out on the northeast side, The Songbird Cafe at 2707 Plymouth Road is the Plymouth Road corridor’s neighborhood breakfast and coffee room: scrambles, avocado toast done right, house pastries, and a serious espresso bar. Daily 8am to 3pm.
It is the natural morning stop if you live or work along the Plymouth Road and Green Road stretch, well clear of the downtown crowds.

Barry Bagels
When the answer is a bagel and a fast coffee, Barry Bagels at 2515 Jackson, on the Westgate corner, boils and bakes them in-house and stacks the breakfast sandwiches high. Open at 7am every day, which makes it the pre-commute pick on the west side.
Grab a dozen for the office or eat an egg-and-cheese on a fresh onion bagel at the counter. Either way you are out fast.

Harvest Moon Cafe
Worth the short drive east, Harvest Moon Cafe at 5484 W Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti is country home-style breakfast at its most generous: skillets, big omelets, biscuits, and portions that make the price look like a typo. It opens at 7:30am every day and serves breakfast right through the afternoon.
If you are already headed toward Ypsilanti or the airport, this is the breakfast that justifies the route.

A note on hours
These are the regular August 2026 hours, checked venue by venue, but breakfast places change their opening times more than anyone – holidays, football Saturdays, staffing, the odd week off. Two spots here are closed a weekday (Juicy Kitchen on Monday and Tuesday, The Hen on Wednesday), and a few open later on Sundays. When it matters, call the morning of.
