The pretzel appetizer comes with a beer cheese worth ordering a second round to finish. A good first stop before you walk down Main to Jolly Pumpkin or Grizzly Peak.

Quieter than the Main Street rooms, older-feeling in the good way. Bring someone you actually want to hear.

Aventura
Spanish tapas on Washington, and one of the few downtown spots running happy hour every single day from 3 to 6. That’s the whole appeal – no “only on weekdays” asterisk, so it works for a Sunday just as well as a Tuesday.
Small plates were built for this format. Order a few, split a pitcher of sangria, and let the table fill in.

Loud, casual, exactly what you want when the plan is cheap and easy. Don’t expect craft cocktails; do expect to spend less than you planned.

Zingerman’s Roadhouse

No craft cocktails, no small plates, no attitude. Just honest pours and a room full of people who live in Ann Arbor year-round. It’s been here since 1964 and plans to outlast whatever opens next door.

Three downtown names get asked about that don’t run a standard happy hour, so here’s the honest read:

How to Work the Clock
Most Ann Arbor happy hours land between 3 and 6, Monday through Friday. The sweet spot is 4:30 – early enough to grab a seat, late enough that nobody’s judging. Street parking is free after 6 PM and on Sundays, so if you’re patient you can time your arrival to skip the meters entirely.
