Ashley's has been at 338 S State St since 1983, a few steps from the campus edge, and the beer list is the reason to make the trip. It is one of the deepest draft and bottle programs in Michigan, run alongside a serious whiskey bar and a from-scratch American pub kitchen rather than bolted onto a snack menu.
For a late plate it is a midweek option rather than a 2am one. Open 11:30am to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11:30am to 1am Friday and Saturday. That midnight close is later than most of State Street and earlier than the South University bars, so it sits in the gap between a dinner room and a late room.
