The Best Christmas Tree Farms Near Ann Arbor

The farm on Warren Road is not open. It has not been for two years.

Braun’s Tree Farm at 796 Warren Rd was for decades the tree farm inside Ann Arbor, 50 acres fifteen minutes from downtown, and it is still the first result a lot of people land on. It closed. Google lists it permanently closed, braunstrees.com no longer resolves to anything, and the farm’s own Facebook page announced it would sit out the 2024 season and then went quiet. Several roundups still send people there. If you have a vague memory of driving out Warren Road for a tree, that is the memory, and it is the wrong trip.

So here is the real map, and it is bigger than most people think: twelve places within reach of Ann Arbor that will sell you a tree, from a lot on Stadium Boulevard you can walk to, to a 400-acre farm in Grass Lake that is open seven days a week.

This is sorted by the four things that actually end a trip: when the season opens, which days the gates are shut, how late they stay open, and whether your card works. One of these farms takes no cards at all.

The dates for 2026, up front

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday 26 November 2026, so the Friday everyone opens is 27 November. Two farms open earlier than that, on the weekend of 21 and 22 November, and that weekend is the single best time to go if you want a tall tree.

Five of these places had their 2026 dates posted when this was checked on 26 October. Two still had last season’s calendar up, which is normal for late October and is called out below so you know to phone rather than click.

Start here: the one where your card will not work

Westman’s Christmas Tree Farm

A family farm on Chamberlin Road north of Dexter village, selling you-cut trees since 1965, and the only place on this list where turning up with nothing but a card ends the trip. Cash or check only, no credit cards, stated plainly on the farm’s own site.

Every tree is 110 dollars whatever you choose, which makes the decision about the tree rather than the budget. The stock is spruce-led where everyone else leans fir: Norway spruce, blue spruce, concolor fir, Canaan fir and Korean fir, mostly five to eight feet. Taller trees are in short supply, so height means going early in the season. Bow saws, twine, a pin stand drill, tree bailers and a tree shaker are all free to use.

The weekday window is the other thing to write down. Saturday and Sunday run 9am to 5pm, but Monday through Friday the farm opens only from 3:30pm to 5pm. That is 90 minutes, and in December most of it is after dark. Other times by appointment.

8000 Chamberlin Rd, Dexter. See the listing.

All trees 110 dollars. Cash or check only. Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday 3:30pm to 5pm, other times by appointment. Phone 734-426-2476. The price, the payment rule and the weekday window are the farm’s own; its posted calendar still showed the previous season on 26 Oct 2026, so confirm opening weekend before driving out.

Best for a tree you cut yourself

These are the fields. You get a saw, you walk out, you pick, you cut.

Urquhart’s Tree Farm

Two hundred acres in Chelsea, family run since 1991, and the biggest you-cut operation near Ann Arbor. It is also the only one that prices by the foot once you go tall: 99 dollars for anything seven feet and under, then 13.50 a foot at eight feet and over. Pre-cut starts at 59. Every price includes shaking and wrapping, which more than one farm around here charges extra for.

The service model is what to plan around. Friday through Sunday is full service, 10am to 5pm, with staff, free hay wagon rides, refreshments and both an outdoor and a heated indoor gift shop. Weekdays run self serve on the same 10am to 5pm window with limited staff on the farm. Saws and carts are provided either way. The farm asks you to arrive at least an hour before close, because finding and cutting a tree takes longer than people expect, and that is honest advice rather than an upsell.

10050 Jerusalem Rd, Chelsea. See the listing.

You-cut 99 dollars at seven feet and under, 13.50 a foot at eight and over, pre-cut from 59, shaking and wrapping included. Full service Friday to Sunday 10am to 5pm, self serve weekdays. Cash, check, debit and all four major cards. Phone 734-433-8733. Prices and service model are the farm’s own; its hours page still carried the previous season’s dates on 26 Oct 2026.

Urquhart’s Jackson Road Field

The same farm’s satellite field, a few minutes away, and worth knowing about for two reasons. It is where the tall Fraser firs are, because that is what this field grows best. And it does not fill up, because the main farm absorbs the weekend crowd.

What you give up is the gift shop, the refreshments and the wagon ride. The trade is a shorter queue and a better chance at height. It runs full service Friday through Sunday 10am to 5pm, and self serve 10am to 5pm on any day the main farm is not running full hours, which in practice makes it open more days than almost anything else in the county.

10011 Jackson Rd, Chelsea. See the listing.

Same pricing and phone as the main farm, 734-433-8733. Smaller selection, best for tall Fraser fir, no gift shop. Confirm before a weekday drive.

Wing Farms

The closest working tree farm to the city with a posted 2026 season, out on Dexter Ann Arbor Road, and the only one in the area that publishes a price before you arrive. Fraser fir at eight feet is 80 dollars while supplies last. Fresh wreaths come in several sizes, and there is a wreath decorating class run through the farm’s crafts arm.

The season is a clean, short window: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 27 November through 20 December, 10am to 6pm, closed Monday through Thursday. Then from 21 December to Christmas Eve it switches to self serve only. That last detail is the useful one. You can still get a tree in the final four days, which several farms cannot offer, but there will be nobody there to help you load it.

5335 Dexter Ann Arbor Rd, Ann Arbor. See the listing.

Fraser fir, eight feet, 80 dollars while supplies last. Friday to Sunday 10am to 6pm, 27 November to 20 December 2026, then self serve only 21 to 24 December. Phone 734-761-7578. Dates and price are the farm’s own, verified 26 Oct 2026.

Hillside Christmas Tree Farm

Out past Manchester on Sharon Hollow Road, and the pick of the list if you want something other than a Fraser fir. Seven species: Canaan fir, balsam fir, concolor fir, Korean fir, Colorado blue spruce, Black Hills spruce and Serbian spruce. Nothing else within reach of Ann Arbor carries that range.

It opens Saturday 21 November 2026, six days before the rest of the county, and it runs weekends only, 10am to 5pm. That is the shortest week on this list, so a Hillside trip has to be planned rather than squeezed in. Free wagon rides run out to the fields, and you can also drive out or walk with a tree cart. There is a kids play area, and a Christmas barn with refreshments and a sing-along.

14745 Sharon Hollow Rd, Manchester. See the listing.

Opens Saturday 21 November 2026, weekends only 10am to 5pm. Cash and check. Phone 517-456-7233. The opening date is the farm’s own, posted for the 2026 season and verified 26 Oct 2026.

Fred’s Tree Farm

The newest name on the Washtenaw tree map and the smallest, up on Farrell Road north of Dexter village, roughly 20 minutes from downtown. Friday through Sunday, 10am to 4:30pm, closed Monday through Thursday, so this is a weekend trip or nothing.

It carries the highest rating of any tree farm in the county on the numbers that exist, 5.0 from 20 reviews, and 20 reviews is a thin sample worth naming as thin. The 4:30pm close is early against December daylight, so leave margin.

4890 Farrell Rd, Dexter. See the listing.

Friday to Sunday 10am to 4:30pm, closed Monday to Thursday. Phone 734-323-4260. The farm runs a Facebook page rather than a website, so these hours are a Google listing and not a first-party posting. Checked 26 Oct 2026.

Effner’s Christmas Tree Farm

South of Ann Arbor past Saline on Samer Road, and the only tree farm covering that corner of the county. Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm, closed the other five days.

Be clear-eyed about how little is confirmed here before you commit the drive. The farm publishes no phone number and no website anywhere, and carries no reviews at all, so the hours above are a Google listing with nothing to check them against. It is on this map because somebody searching tree farms around Milan deserves to know it exists, not because the schedule is verified. Treat the weekend window as a starting assumption and pair the trip with something else nearby.

1862 Samer Rd, Milan. See the listing.

Listed Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm. No phone or website published. Checked 26 Oct 2026.

Best if you are going after work

This is the gap in every other tree-farm roundup covering this area. Most of these farms shut at 5pm, which is useless to anyone working a normal day in December. Three places solve it.

Flatsnoots Christmas Trees

A lot on West Stadium Boulevard, inside Ann Arbor, on a bus route. It answers the question the farm guides never get to: where do you buy a tree without leaving town or giving up a Saturday.

The hours are the whole argument. 10am to 8pm every day of the week once the season opens the day after Thanksgiving, which is 27 November in 2026. Nothing else within reach of Ann Arbor is open at seven on a Tuesday evening. Fresh-cut trees, live potted trees, wreaths and roping, starting around 50 dollars, and the lot takes credit and debit.

What you give up is the field. No cutting your own, no wagon ride, no hot cider. For a lot of people in December that is a feature.

2103 W Stadium Blvd, Ann Arbor. See the listing.

10am to 8pm daily in season, opening the day after Thanksgiving. Trees from around 50 dollars. Credit and debit accepted. The business publishes no phone number and its website was a placeholder on 26 Oct 2026, so these hours are Google’s listing rather than the lot’s own posting.

Schell Family Farm

Up Dexter-Pinckney Road, about 25 minutes from downtown, selling trees since its first season in 2019, and the only cut-your-own field in reach that is open seven days a week and still open at 7pm. Monday through Wednesday 4pm to 7pm, Thursday and Friday noon to 7pm, weekends 10am to 7pm.

That weekday evening window is genuinely rare out here. Rated 4.9 from 109 reviews, which is the strongest combination of score and sample of any tree farm in reach of Ann Arbor.

10055 Dexter-Pinckney Rd, Pinckney. See the listing.

Monday to Wednesday 4pm to 7pm, Thursday and Friday noon to 7pm, weekends 10am to 7pm. Phone 517-915-6781. The farm’s site names Christmas trees but publishes no hours, so the schedule above is a Google listing. Confirm the weekday afternoon window before relying on it.

Three Cedars Farm

Thirty minutes east in Northville, and the one to pick if the trip is for the kids rather than the tree. Country Christmas 2026 runs 27 November to 20 December, Friday and Saturday 10am to 8pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm. Santa keeps published hours, which almost nowhere does: Friday and Saturday 11am to 2pm and again 4pm to 7pm, Sunday noon to 4pm.

Two things before you go. The 8pm Friday and Saturday close is the latest of any farm-style operation within reach of Ann Arbor, so this is the one that works after work on a Friday. And the farm charges a 3.99 percent processing fee on every credit and debit transaction, with an ATM on the property, so cash is meaningfully cheaper here in a way it is not everywhere. On a 120 dollar tree that fee is about five dollars.

Rated 4.5 from 1,952 reviews, by far the deepest review pool of any tree seller in reach, which tells you how busy it gets.

7897 Six Mile Rd, Northville. See the listing.

Country Christmas 2026, 27 November to 20 December. Friday and Saturday 10am to 8pm, Sunday 10am to 5pm. Santa Friday and Saturday 11am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm, Sunday noon to 4pm. 3.99 percent card processing fee, ATM on site. Phone 248-437-8200. Dates, Santa hours and the fee are the farm’s own, verified 26 Oct 2026.

Best if you want it open every single day

Arend Tree Farms

Four hundred acres across three farms and two retail locations out at Grass Lake, and the thing that sets it apart around here is simply the week. Once the season is open it runs 9am to 5pm every day, while most of the county is Friday to Sunday. Cut your own Fraser fir at the Grass Lake farm. The Brooklyn location on M-50 sells pre-cut.

There are two openings in 2026. An early weekend on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November, 9am to 5pm, with no wagon rides yet. Then full operation from Friday 27 November, with horse-drawn wagon rides on weekends when the weather allows. Shaking and baling are included either way, and the farm takes cash, check and cards.

The early weekend is worth a note. If you want a tall tree, the weekend of 21 November at Arend or Hillside is the best shot you get, because 400 acres still only grows so many nine-footers and they go first.

3512 Notten Rd, Grass Lake. See the listing.

Early sales Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November 2026, 9am to 5pm. Full operation from Friday 27 November, 9am to 5pm daily. Horse-drawn wagon rides weekends, weather permitting. Cash, check and credit cards. Phone 734-475-7584. Both opening dates are the farm’s own, verified 26 Oct 2026.

Coleman’s Farm Market

A year-round produce market on West Michigan Avenue that turns into a tree lot the day after Thanksgiving, and the nearest pre-cut option for Ypsilanti, Pittsfield and the east side of the metro. There is a second Coleman’s lot at 910 Ridge Rd in Ypsilanti, on 734-483-1783, which is the one to use if you are coming from the north end.

Market hours run 9am to 7pm daily. During the tree season the Michigan Christmas Tree Association directory lists both lots at 10am to 8pm daily, so the evening window gets longer once the trees arrive. The market’s own site asks you to call for November and December times rather than publishing them, so do that for a late run.

5415 W Michigan Ave, Ypsilanti. See the listing.

Market 9am to 7pm daily. Tree season listed at 10am to 8pm daily from the day after Thanksgiving. Phone 734-434-5454. A lot, not a farm: no cutting your own. Tree-season hours come from the trade directory rather than the market’s own page, checked 26 Oct 2026.

Two places other lists will send you that this one will not

Braun’s Tree Farm, 796 Warren Rd, Ann Arbor. Covered at the top. Permanently closed per Google, domain no longer resolving, Facebook last announcing it would sit out the 2024 season. It is still the top result on several directories. Worth saying twice, because it is a fifteen-minute drive to a locked gate.

One point of order while we are here: the directory on this site holds a listing for H&K Braun Farms at 1995 W Bemis Rd in Saline. That is a different, operating business and not the closed tree farm. Braun is a common farming name in this county.

Sun Tree Farms, 440 Judd Rd, Saline. Still printed in several tree directories. The most careful of those directories flags that there is nothing current about it, and a business search on the name and address returns a different company at a different address entirely. We have not been able to confirm a 2026 season, so it is not on the map above. If you know otherwise, we would like to hear it.

The short answers

Which farm is open the most days? Arend Tree Farms in Grass Lake, 9am to 5pm seven days a week, and Schell Family Farm in Pinckney, seven days with evening hours. Urquhart’s satellite field on Jackson Road is open most days too, on self serve.

Which one is open latest? Flatsnoots in Ann Arbor, 8pm every night. Three Cedars in Northville also runs to 8pm but only on Friday and Saturday.

Which one takes no cards? Westman’s in Dexter. Cash or check. Bring it.

Where is the cheapest tree? Flatsnoots starts around 50 dollars and Urquhart’s pre-cut starts at 59. For a cut-your-own, Wing Farms is 80 dollars for an eight-foot Fraser.

Which is best with small children? Three Cedars Farm, on Santa’s posted hours and the sheer amount going on. Hillside is the quieter version of the same idea, with wagon rides and a Christmas barn, if you prefer the trip without the queue.

When should I go for a tall tree? The weekend of 21 and 22 November, at Arend or Hillside. Both open before Thanksgiving and the nine-footers go first everywhere.

Is there anywhere I can get a tree without driving out of Ann Arbor? Flatsnoots on West Stadium Boulevard, inside the city, open daily to 8pm. Wing Farms on Dexter Ann Arbor Road is the closest actual field.

Can I still get a tree the week before Christmas? Yes, but the list narrows. Wing Farms runs self serve only from 21 to 24 December. Urquhart’s runs daily self serve through the end of the season. Three Cedars and Wing both finish full service on 20 December.

—

Every date, price and payment rule above was checked on 26 October 2026 against the farm’s own website where it publishes one, the Michigan Christmas Tree Association retail-lot directory where it does not, and a business-listing sweep of every tree seller within reach of Ann Arbor. Where a farm had not yet posted its 2026 calendar, this guide says so rather than reprinting last season’s dates. Seasonal farms often show as temporarily closed in late October; that is the off season, not a closure. Hours change, and a short season gives a farm little reason to update a website. Phone before a long drive.

The same first weekend of December carries most of the area’s markets too. The holiday markets guide has every 2026 date, with the weekly markets that run on from it.
