Good Time Charley's opened on South University in 1979 and has been the default campus room ever since, which is why the address reads as a landmark rather than a street number. It is at 1140 S University Ave, a few minutes from the Diag, and it runs a specials week that students plan around: Mug Club Monday, bingo at 9pm Tuesday, trivia at 9:30pm Wednesday, and a $6.99 burger plus a 10pm beer pong tournament on Thursday.
This is the clearest example in town of the two different closing times a bar actually has, and Charley's is unusual in publishing both. The doors run 5pm to 1am Sunday and Monday, 3pm to 1am Tuesday and Wednesday, and 3pm to 2am Thursday through Saturday. The kitchen is a different clock: the regular menu stops at 10pm every day, and a shorter late night menu carries on to 11pm Sunday through Wednesday and to 1am Thursday through Saturday. Walk in at midnight on a Friday wanting dinner and you are two hours past the full menu.
The published grid is the regular week. The bar also opens early for Michigan football Saturdays, St Patrick's Day and Art Fair, so a game day is its own schedule.
