About
The Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library sits on the Diag side of Central Campus at 913 S University Ave, next door to Shapiro and a short walk from the State Street shops.Hatcher runs later than any public library in the county on a school night: 8am to midnight Monday through Thursday, 1pm to midnight Sunday, 8am to 5pm Friday, and 10am to 5pm Saturday. The catch is the door - after 6pm the South entrance is MCard access only.U-M's building access policy says that "any individual may have access to University Library buildings to use collections and most resources and services on-site", so a member of the public can read here during staffed hours. Group study rooms are a different matter: those "are generally available only to members of the campus community." The bookable rooms in this corner of campus are next door in Shapiro. If you want a room you can reserve without an MCard, the Ann Arbor District Library books closed-door rooms free with a library card, and Chelsea District Library takes online reservations for study booths with no card or residency requirement at all.Hours confirmed against both lib.umich.edu and Google on 31 October 2026, where the two agree exactly. Call (734) 764-0401 to check before a university break, when the building closes early. Rated 4.6 out of 5 across 75 Google reviews.
