Some Ann Arbor kitchens are still going at 3 a.m. Most of downtown goes dark by ten, so knowing the handful of places that stay open past that is the difference between a real meal and a gas-station granola bar. This is the list, sorted by how late you can walk in, with hours checked the first week of August 2026.
A note before you go: hours drift, especially between semesters and on holidays. Everything below was current as of early August, but a two-second call ahead never hurts on a slow Tuesday.
Still open after 2 a.m.
Pizza House
The default answer to “where’s open right now.” Pizza House on Church Street runs its dining room and delivery until 4 a.m. every single night, which makes it the last light on in the campus area more often than not. It is a full menu, not just pizza – the chipati (a stuffed, folded bread thing) and the cheddar bread with the sauce are what people actually order at 1 a.m., and delivery to a dorm or a South U apartment is fast even at peak closing-time chaos.
Go in person if you want a booth and a basket of the bread. Order delivery if you have already committed to the couch.
618 Church St. Pizza House
Joe’s Pizza NYC
The New York slice shop that a lot of transplants swear is the real thing. Joe’s on South University stays open until 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, 2 a.m. midweek, and midnight on Sundays and Mondays. The plain cheese is the move – thin, foldable, cooked hot and fast, exactly what you want after a night out.
It is counter service and it is a scene late on weekends, so expect a line of students and expect it to move quickly. Cash-and-go, eat it on the walk home.

Open until 2 a.m.
Fraser’s Pub
A genuine neighborhood sports bar on Packard, open until 2 a.m. Monday through Friday. The kitchen winds down earlier than the bar (wings and bar food stop around ten), so this is the spot when you mainly want one more beer, a late basket of something fried, and a game still on somewhere overhead. It is unpretentious in the best way – regulars, a pool table, no cover, no attitude.
Not a destination dinner. Exactly right at 11 p.m. when you are not ready to call it.
2045 Packard St. Fraser’s Pub
The Last Word
The downstairs cocktail bar on Huron for when “late” means one more good drink, not another slice. The Last Word runs until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, with a whiskey list that is genuinely deep and bartenders who can build you something off-menu if you tell them what you like. Closed Sundays.
Order the drink the bar is named after – gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino, lime, in equal parts – and settle into the dark. This is the adult end of the late-night list.
301 W Huron St. The Last Word
Open until midnight
HopCat
The craft-beer bar on Maynard with a tap wall long enough to be intimidating, open until midnight Thursday through Saturday and 11 p.m. the rest of the week. The reason to come late is the food keeps going with the beer – the Cosmik fries, dusted in their cracked-pepper seasoning, are the thing to order, and a burger at 11:30 hits differently than it should.
Right in the middle of campus, so it fills up on game nights and after shows at the Michigan Theater. Grab a seat at the bar if the tables are gone.
311 Maynard St. HopCat
Frita Batidos
Cuban-inspired counter food in a bright white room on Washington, open until midnight Friday and Saturday, 11 p.m. the rest of the week. The frita – a spiced burger topped with a tangle of shoestring fries – is the signature, and a batido (a thick tropical milkshake) alongside it is close to mandatory. It reads as a lunch spot but works late, especially on a warm night with the windows open.
Order at the counter, grab a communal picnic table, and get the fries with the whole thing on top.
117 W Washington St. Frita Batidos
Open until 11 p.m. on weekends
These close at ten on weeknights and stretch to eleven on Friday and Saturday. Good to know when it is 9:45 and you still have not eaten.
Sava’s
The State Street all-day spot with the ivy patio, open until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sava’s does a little of everything well – brunch through late dinner – and the kitchen is reliable enough that showing up at 10:15 does not feel like an imposition. The truffle fries and a cocktail is a solid late order; so is a full plate if you skipped dinner.
Near campus on State, easy to pair with a movie or a show letting out.

Aventura
Spanish tapas and paella on Washington, open until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Late is actually a good time to come here – the room quiets down, and a few small plates with a glass of Rioja is a better version of a nightcap than another beer somewhere loud. The patatas bravas and the octopus are the ones to build around.
Sit at the bar if you did not book a table. Happy hour runs early, but the late seating is calmer.
216 E Washington St. Aventura
Grizzly Peak Brewing Company
The downtown brewpub on the corner of Washington and Ashley, open until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. House beer brewed on site, a pub menu that goes deeper than it needs to, and enough room that a late group of six is not a problem. The pretzel and a fresh pour is the low-stakes order; the burger holds up if you want dinner.
Central enough to be the meeting point before or after everything else downtown.
120 W Washington St. Grizzly Peak Brewing Company
Palm Palace
Mediterranean and Middle Eastern on Carpenter Road, open until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and one of the few genuinely good late options on the east side. The shawarma and the hummus with warm pita are the reasons to drive out here, and portions are big enough to double as tomorrow’s lunch. Not downtown, so parking is a non-issue.
The move if you are coming from the Arborland side of town and do not want to fight for a spot near Main.
2370 Carpenter Rd. Palm Palace
Blank Slate Creamery
For when late-night means dessert, not dinner. Blank Slate on West Liberty scoops until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, small-batch ice cream made in house with flavors that rotate. The brown butter caramel and the seasonal specials are worth asking about. A cone here is a legitimate reason to stay downtown a little longer after dinner.
Walkable from the Main Street restaurants, so end the night here.
300 W Liberty St. Blank Slate Creamery
Cardamom
North Campus Indian with a full bar, open until 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday (closed Monday and Tuesday). This is the North Campus answer to the “everything near me is closed” problem – scratch cooking, house-roasted spice, and a bar that means you can linger. The saag and any of the tandoor plates travel well if you are picking up on the way home from the Duderstadt.
Steps from North Campus, which is otherwise a late-night food desert. Worth knowing about.

The short version
If it is past 2 a.m., it is Pizza House or Joe’s. Between midnight and two, add HopCat and Fraser’s. Before midnight you have real choices – Sava’s, Aventura, Grizzly Peak downtown, Palm Palace on the east side, Cardamom up on North Campus, and Blank Slate if what you actually want is a cone.
