Late-Night Food in Ann Arbor: What Is Actually Open After Midnight

At 4am, Ann Arbor has seven open doors.

That number does not change. Not on a Saturday, not on a Monday, not during a home football weekend. Seven, every single night of the week. All the variation people argue about happens earlier, between about eleven and two, and it is enormous: 140 doors are open at 10pm on a Friday and 24 are open at 2am. Roughly five out of every six places serving food in this town turn off inside those four hours.

So this guide is sorted by the clock rather than by cuisine. We pulled the published schedule for every food and drink venue in four district rectangles – the State Street campus core, South University, downtown Main Street and Kerrytown – plus a citywide pass for the 24-hour and after-midnight outliers on Packard, Washtenaw, Plymouth and Stadium. That is 279 venues swept, 235 of them operational with a real weekly schedule. Then we checked the ones that matter against the venues’ own websites, on 22 October 2026.

The short version: late night starts downtown and ends on campus, Michigan’s 2am last call is the whole shape of the evening, and “open until 2am” very often does not mean “food until 2am.”

The one thing to know: the doors and the kitchen are two different clocks

This is the mistake every late-night list makes, including the earlier version of this one.

Google has a field for when a business is open. It does not have a field for when the kitchen stops. Those are different hours at a large share of the places you would actually consider at midnight, and the gap can be four hours wide.

Good Time Charley’s at 1140 S University is the clean example, because it publishes both numbers itself. The doors are open until 1am Sunday through Wednesday and 2am Thursday through Saturday. The kitchen, in its own words, runs the “regular menu until 10pm daily.” If you walk in at midnight on a Friday looking for dinner, you are four hours late, and every aggregator in the world will still have told you it was open.

Fraser’s Pub on Packard publishes the same distinction for one day of its week: Monday through Saturday it runs 11am to 2am, Sunday it closes at midnight, and on Sundays specifically the kitchen stops at 10pm. It also quietly shifts for football – from September through December it opens at 8:30am on Saturdays and Sundays rather than eleven.

The practical rule: at a bar that serves food, assume the kitchen closes between 10pm and midnight unless the venue says otherwise, and call if it matters. At a counter whose entire business is food, the posted hour is usually the real one. The rest of this guide is organised on that basis.

Open at 4am: the seven-door floor

Here is the full list, and it is the same list every night.

Pizza House at 618 Church St is the answer most people are looking for, and it is open later than its own Google listing says. Google reports a midnight close Monday through Thursday. Pizza House’s own website states 10:30am to 4:00am, Monday through Sunday, and advertises “dine in or get delivery till 4AM daily.” Seven nights. Order the chipati or the cheddar bread and sauce; that is what the 1am room is eating.

Fleetwood Diner at 300 S Ashley is the 24-hour one, and the detail worth knowing is about ordering rather than hours. The dining room is open 24 hours to walk-ins. Online ordering is only live from 8:45am to 10:45pm. At 3am you can sit at the counter and get hash, and you cannot get it delivered.

Bodega Bros at 715 N University is the campus 24-hour deli, and the 7-Eleven at 318 S State is the campus 24-hour counter a few blocks south. Those two plus Pizza House are the whole of the walkable late-night map after 3am.

Then the drive-to list. The Taco Bell at 1655 Plymouth Rd runs 9am to 4am, and it is the one case where we went looking for the usual trick and did not find it: its location page publishes a Drive-Thru grid and a Dine-In grid separately, and both say 4am. The lobby really is open. The W Stadium Blvd store matches it. The McDonald’s at 2310 W Stadium Blvd, the Burger King at 4885 Washtenaw Ave and the Speedway counter at 4001 S State Rd are genuine 24-hour operations, and the University Fuel Mart at 300 N Main is the downtown 24-hour convenience option.

Worth stating plainly, because it is the honest shape of the thing: of the seven doors open at 4am, one is a diner, one is a pizza counter, two are convenience stores, two are fast-food and one is a gas station. Ann Arbor has a real after-hours layer. It is small, and most of it is not a restaurant.

2am to 4am: a short, specific list

Michigan’s last call is 2am, and that single fact does more to shape this town’s night than anything about its restaurants. At 2am on a Friday, 24 doors are open citywide. The bars are not among them, because 2am is when they close.

Eat Thai at 332 S Main St is the one that surprises people: a Thai kitchen on Main Street serving until 4am, Wednesday through Saturday. Sunday it goes to 2am, and Monday and Tuesday it is a normal restaurant closing at ten. It is also, at 2am, one of only three open doors on the whole downtown stretch, and the only one of those three with a kitchen.

New York Pizza Depot at 605 E William runs to 3am every night of the week, which makes it the steadiest late option in the State Street core. Joe’s Pizza NYC at 1107 S University is the other slice shop and its week is uneven: 3am Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 2am Wednesday, midnight Sunday and Monday. If you want a plain cheese slice at 2:30am on a Monday, that is a Depot night, not a Joe’s night.

BTB Burrito at 1140 S University goes to 2:30am Thursday through Saturday, 1am Tuesday and Wednesday and 11pm on Sunday and Monday – one of the widest swings on the list. Halal Bros 2 Go at 810 S State runs to 3am Thursday through Saturday and 1am the rest of the week. Insomnia Cookies at 1229 S University closes at 3am Thursday through Saturday and 1am Sunday through Wednesday, which is worth saying because the chain advertises “warm cookies delivered until 3 AM daily” nationally and this store is a 3am store on three nights out of seven.

Further out, Cottage Inn on Packard goes to 4am Thursday through Saturday and 2am otherwise, the White Castle at 3953 Packard reaches 3am on Friday and Saturday, and the Domino’s at 716 Packard does 3am on the weekend. All of those need a car.

Midnight to 2am: this is where the choice actually is

The hour between midnight and 1am is the real late-night window in Ann Arbor. 63 doors are open at midnight on a Friday and 54 at 1am, against 24 at 2am.

On campus, Brown Jug at 1204 S University is the most reliable room on the list: 11am to 2am, seven days a week, stated plainly on its own site with no kitchen caveat attached. Its sibling The Back Room at 605 Church runs the same 2am close. The Garage Bar at 618 Church, which shares a building and a phone number with Pizza House, is 11am to 2am daily with extended hours for games.

Ashley’s at 338 S State is midnight Sunday through Thursday and 1am Friday and Saturday, with one of the deepest beer lists in the state. The Blue Leprechaun at 1220 S University is 8am to 2am seven days, which makes it both the earliest and one of the latest doors in the campus district.

Raising Cane’s at 1116 S University is midnight Sunday through Wednesday and 2am Thursday through Saturday. HopCat at 311 Maynard and Condado Tacos at 401 E Liberty both hold 11pm midweek and push to midnight on the weekend.

Downtown at this hour you have real range. Heidelberg at 215 N Main runs to 2am Thursday through Saturday and midnight the rest of the week across its floors. Frita Batidos at 117 W Washington holds 11pm midweek and midnight Friday and Saturday. Nightcap at 220 S Main closes at 1am every night of the week, opening at 6pm midweek and 5pm on weekends.

For a drink rather than a plate, The Last Word on W Huron runs to 2am Friday and Saturday and 1am midweek, Babs’ Underground on S Ashley and The Blind Pig on S First both hold 2am seven days, and Necto on E Liberty and Cantina at 1140 S University are weekend-only 2am rooms. Scorekeepers at 310 Maynard is worth one extra sentence, because its two sources disagree. Its own website says 5pm to 2am Tuesday through Saturday. Google currently shows it closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. We have gone with the venue, which is the house rule, but on a Tuesday this is a phone call rather than a walk.

Late night starts downtown and ends on campus

This is the pattern the numbers make, and it is the opposite of what most people assume.

At 10pm on a Friday, downtown Main Street is clearly the bigger night: 50 doors open against the campus districts’ 32. At midnight downtown is still ahead, 22 to 17. By 2am it has inverted completely – the campus districts have seven doors open and downtown has three. By 3am both have three, and after that campus keeps Pizza House while downtown keeps Fleetwood.

Downtown’s midnight-to-1am crowd is almost entirely bars – the 1am downtown list is sixteen bars and nightclubs, and at 2am they close as a group. Campus has fewer rooms open but a higher share of them are kitchens. If you want a drink at 1am, go downtown. If you want food at 2am, walk toward Church Street.

Kerrytown, for the record, has one door open at 10pm on a Friday and Saturday and none at 10pm on the other five nights. At midnight it is zero, every night of the week. It is a morning district, which our Kerrytown guide goes into properly.

Sunday and Monday are a different town

The late-night map shrinks by more than half at the start of the week.

Sunday at 10pm has 81 doors against Friday’s 140. Sunday at 1am has 25 against 54. The 4am row is the one that holds, which is the whole point of the seven-door floor: Monday at 4am looks exactly like Saturday at 4am. If you are out late on a Sunday or a Monday, skip straight to the 4am list and save yourself the walk.

What we could not pin down

Several venues above publish no weekly schedule on their own websites, and those are cited to Google with the phone number printed: Joe’s Pizza NYC, Halal Bros 2 Go (whose own site does not resolve from our server), Bodega Bros, the 7-Eleven at 318 S State, University Fuel Mart, and the Insomnia Cookies store hours as distinct from the chain’s national claim.

Two entries in the data are left out of every count above rather than guessed at. One listing on Packard Rd reports a 6am close, which would make it the latest door in Washtenaw County, but it has four reviews, no phone number, and its web address serves a holding page for a different restaurant group. A bakery listing on Platt Rd reports “open 24 hours” seven days with two reviews and no website beyond a social link. Both may well be real businesses; neither is confirmable from here, and a 24-hour bakery would have been the biggest line in this guide if we could stand it up.

One Google field is simply mistaken and we corrected it: State Street Eats at 215 S State is listed as “Sunday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 AM,” an inverted meridiem that reads as a 22-hour Sunday. Its other six days are 11am to 9pm, and we treated Sunday the same way.

Burger and Wing Depot at 347 Maynard reports 2:30am seven nights and has six reviews, no phone and no website. We have left it in the arithmetic because the address and the schedule are both plausible for that block, but it is unconfirmed and there is no number to call, so treat it as a maybe.

One correction to our own earlier work, since it changed the headline. The first version of this page was built from a May 2026 data snapshot with no first-party verification at all, and it reported Fraser’s Pub as open until 2am “Monday through Friday,” where the pub’s own site says Monday through Saturday.

Five of the rooms in this guide do not yet have their own page on this site – Eat Thai, Good Time Charley’s, Ashley’s, Scorekeepers and the Blue Leprechaun – which is why they are named with an address and a phone number rather than linked. They are on the list to add.

How to use this

Before 11pm you have most of the town, and the useful question is what you want rather than what is open. Our downtown Ann Arbor restaurants guide is sorted by closing time, which is the right tool for a 9pm decision.

Between 11pm and 1am, pick a district and commit. Downtown for a drink, campus for a plate.

After 2am there are seven doors and you already know them: Pizza House on Church, Fleetwood on Ashley, Bodega Bros and the 7-Eleven on campus, and a drive to Plymouth Rd, W Stadium or Washtenaw. Wednesday through Saturday, add Eat Thai on Main.
