About
Rare, used and antiquarian books since 1975.West Side Book Shop opened at 113 W Liberty St in 1975, which makes it the oldest surviving bookshop in Ann Arbor by a year. Jay Platt deals in polar exploration, voyages and travel, Americana, modern first editions, mysteries, photography and Edward S. Curtis, and he is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America. The aisles are narrow enough that you turn sideways in places. Plenty of the stock sits in the five to twenty dollar range alongside the glass-case material, so it is worth a browse even if you are not collecting. There is no music, no coffee bar and no events calendar.Hours are short on weekdays, 11am to 5pm Monday through Thursday, and noon to 5pm Sunday. The listed Friday and Saturday close is 10pm, which is late for an antiquarian shop and the shop publishes no website to confirm it, so call (734) 995-1891 before an evening visit.
