The Best Breakfast Restaurants in Ann Arbor

Brunch is a weekend event. Breakfast is a habit. This is the list for the other mornings – the 7am Tuesday before an exam, the drive that needs coffee and eggs first, the day you just want a plate of hash browns and nobody to rush you. Ann Arbor keeps a deep bench of everyday […]

The Best Restaurants in Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor’s best restaurants aren’t all downtown. The blocks around Main and Liberty get the attention, but some of the rooms locals actually book for the night that matters sit out on Jackson Avenue, up in Kerrytown, or in an 1886 train depot by the river. This is the city-wide short list: the steakhouses and […]

The Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor has fed vegetarians well since 1973. That is the year Seva opened, and the city has built a real meatless scene around it since: all-vegetarian buffets, two fully vegan kitchens from the same family, and a run of Indian, Middle Eastern, and North African rooms where the vegetable side of the menu is […]

The Best Restaurants in Downtown Ann Arbor

Downtown Ann Arbor’s best restaurants sit within walking distance. Most of the food you’d actually plan an evening around is packed into a handful of blocks between Main Street, State Street, Liberty, and Washington, with Kerrytown a short walk north. That density is the whole appeal: you can park once and choose a steakhouse, a […]

Best Korean Restaurants in Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor eats Korean food across every register, from a chef-driven room in Kerrytown to counters selling fried chicken by the box. A large student population keeps the campus-side spots busy, and a growing set of barbecue rooms means you can grill at your own table most nights of the week. The catch is that […]

Best Thai Restaurants in Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor eats a lot of Thai food, and a big student population is why – it is fast, it travels well, and a plate of pad see ew is one of the better cheap dinners in town. The scene splits into two camps. There is No Thai, the local chain that put a counter […]

Where to Stay for a Michigan Game Weekend

Ann Arbor sells out on home Saturdays. Book first, plan later. That is the whole guide in one line. Rooms for the big weekends go months ahead, and the people who wait until the schedule feels real are the ones driving in from Jackson at six on Saturday morning. The useful question is not which […]

Where to Eat Before Michigan Hockey and Basketball

Nobody tailgates for hockey. It is January, it is dark by five, and the whole ritual of a football Saturday is missing. There is no parking lot with a grill in it and no all-day build-up. What there is instead is a much better problem: you have an hour or two, you are cold, and […]

A Saturday in Ann Arbor When There Is No Game

Seven Saturdays this autumn belong to somebody else. The rest belong to us, and they are the better days. If your idea of things to do in Ann Arbor on a Saturday involves a walk, a park with room in it, and leaving the car somewhere without negotiating for the space, you want a non-game […]
