State Street, Ann Arbor: What Is Open, and When

The State Street District runs on two clocks.

That is the single most useful thing to know before you plan an afternoon on campus, and no guide to this part of Ann Arbor says it. The kitchens close at ten. The shops close between half past five and seven. Those are not rough impressions: we pulled the published weekly schedule for every business inside the district on 27 October 2026, and the median closing time for the food layer is 10pm on all seven days of the week, while the median for retail and services never once gets past 7pm.

So this guide is sorted by time rather than by category. The sweep covered the district as the business association draws it, S State St from E Liberty south to the Michigan Union, plus Nickels Arcade, Maynard, Thompson, N University, and the South University and Church St strip east of the Diag. 205 distinct places, 140 of them with a schedule they publish: 85 food and drink, 55 retail and services.

The short version: come between noon and five if you want the whole district at once, come after ten and you are on South University whether you planned to be or not, and do not come on a Monday.

The two clocks

Here is the arithmetic that everything else in this guide follows from.

Day Food layer, median close Retail layer, median close Gap
Monday 10:00pm 7:00pm 3h
Tuesday 10:00pm 6:00pm 4h
Wednesday 10:00pm 7:00pm 3h
Thursday 10:00pm 7:00pm 3h
Friday 10:00pm 6:00pm 4h
Saturday 10:00pm 6:00pm 4h
Sunday 10:00pm 5:30pm 4.5h

The food number is the striking one. It does not move. Not on a Friday, not on a Sunday, not in either direction. Whatever else changes about this district through the week, there is a 10pm kitchen median waiting for you every single night, which is not true of Kerrytown and not true of downtown Ann Arbor either.

The retail number moves, and it moves the wrong way for anyone arriving after work. The district’s shops are at their shortest on the two days most people have free.

Count the doors instead of the medians and the same split shows up. On a Friday at noon, 128 businesses are open, 75 food and 53 retail. At 6pm, 102 are open but the retail half has collapsed from 53 to 26. By 8pm it is 68 kitchens and 10 shops. By 10pm it is 37 kitchens and 2 shops, and one of those two is a Target.

Before nine, the district is coffee

Twenty doors in the district open at or before 7:30am on a weekday. On Saturday that drops to ten. On Sunday it is six.

The earliest is not a cafe anyone recommends, but it is the one that is open: the Starbucks at 222 S State St unlocks at 5am, seven days a week, year round. For three hours it is effectively the only commercial door on State Street.

Ondo Bakery at 324 S State St is the one worth setting an alarm for. Korean-style bakery and cafe, cream breads and pastries out of a case that turns over through the day, and open 7am to 9pm with no variation at all across the week. A fourteen-hour window that is identical on a Sunday and a Monday is rare enough in this district to be a planning tool.

Regular hours: daily 7am-9pm. Cited to Google Places; ondobakery.com publishes no readable schedule and the bakery lists no phone. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Comet Coffee at 16 Nickels Arcade opens at 7:30am on weekdays, 8am Saturday and 8:30am Sunday, and runs to 6:30pm every day. It is the only food business in the arcade that keeps a full seven-day schedule, and it is the reason the arcade’s own Google entry claims a 7am opening that none of its shops actually keep.

Regular hours: Mon-Fri 7:30am-6:30pm, Sat 8am-6:30pm, Sun 8:30am-6:30pm. Cited to Places; the shop trades through a Square storefront with no hours block. Phone (734) 222-0579. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

aMa Bistro at 215 S State St is the breakfast room, and it is worth reading its hours twice: 8am to 3pm, Monday through Sunday, identically. It does not do dinner. The most reviewed breakfast kitchen on State Street shuts at three in the afternoon.

Regular hours: daily 8am-3pm. First-party, amabistro.com: “Monday – Sunday: 8 am – 3 pm”. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

If you want a sit-down breakfast instead of a counter, Frank’s Restaurant at 334 Maynard St is the diner, 8am to 2pm Tuesday through Friday and 8am to 3pm at weekends. Closed Monday, and Frank’s publishes no website at all, so the phone is the only way to check an exception: (734) 761-5699.

Regular hours: Tue-Fri 8am-2pm, Sat-Sun 8am-3pm, closed Mon. Cited to Places; no first-party site exists. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Noon to five, which is when the district is whole

If you have one window and you want everything available at once, it is noon to five. That is the only stretch of the week when both clocks are running.

The retail layer is the half most people under-use, so start there. Bivouac at 336 S State St is the outdoor and clothing shop that has anchored this block for decades, and at 10am to 8pm Monday through Saturday it keeps the longest retail hours of any independent in the district. Sunday is the exception and it is a sharp one: 11:30am to 5pm.

Regular hours: Mon-Sat 10am-8pm, Sun 11:30am-5pm. First-party, bivouacannarbor.com: “Monday-Saturday: 10AM-8PM / Sunday: 11:30AM-5PM”. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Sharing the 336 street number with Bivouac is Wazoo Records, the campus record shop, and its schedule inverts the usual pattern: noon to 6pm Monday through Friday, but 10am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Two hours earlier at the weekend. It is one of very few retail doors in the district you can usefully reach before noon on a Sunday.

Regular hours: Mon-Fri 12pm-6pm, Sat-Sun 10am-6pm. Cited to Places; wazoorecs.com renders no readable hours block. Phone (734) 761-8686. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Van Boven Clothing at 326 S State St, at the arcade’s mouth, sells men’s clothing and prints “Service, Quality and Integrity Since 1921” on its own site. 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday, noon to 5pm Sunday, which makes it one of the short list of independent retailers here that opens on a Sunday at all.

Regular hours: Mon-Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 12pm-5pm. Cited to Places; vanboven.com publishes a store-hours block in script our server cannot read. Phone (734) 665-7228. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

The Dawn Treader Book Shop at 514 E Liberty St is the used bookshop, and it is the outlier that proves the rule: 11am to 8pm Monday through Saturday and 11am to 6pm Sunday. An 8pm close puts a bookshop two hours past the retail median and inside the same hour as the kitchens.

Regular hours: Mon-Sat 11am-8pm, Sun 11am-6pm. First-party, shop.dawntreaderbooks.com: “We are open Monday-Saturday 11am-8pm, Sunday 11am-6pm”. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Rally House at 303 S State St is the other retail exception, 9am to 9pm six days and 9am to 8pm Sunday. If you need Michigan kit outside ordinary shop hours, that is the door, and it is the only large-format one on the street that behaves like a kitchen.

Regular hours: Mon-Sat 9am-9pm, Sun 9am-8pm. Cited to Places. Phone (734) 272-4515. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

For lunch in the same window, Amer’s Delicatessen at 314 S State St is open 8am to 10pm every day of the week without variation, which among sandwich counters on a college street is close to unheard of. Jamaican Jerk Pit at 314 S Thayer St is 11:30am to 9pm Monday through Friday and noon to 9pm Saturday, and closed Sunday – a detail its own contact page confirms by simply not listing a Sunday.

Amer’s regular hours: daily 8am-10pm. Cited to Places; amersdeli.com publishes no schedule. Phone (734) 761-6000. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Jamaican Jerk Pit regular hours: Mon-Fri 11:30am-9pm, Sat 12pm-9pm, closed Sun. First-party, jamaicanjerkpit.com/contact: “Monday-Friday: 11:30 am – 9:00 pm / Saturday: 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm”. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Nickels Arcade is over by half past five

The 1918 glass-roofed passage between S State St and Maynard is the best shopping in the district and the worst-timed. Treat it as its own schedule.

Fourteen tenants trade inside Nickels Arcade. Their median Friday closing time is 5:45pm, against 10pm for the kitchens on the street outside. Eight of the fourteen are shut on Sunday. Four are shut on Monday as well.

The four with the same two days off are worth naming together, because they are the arcade’s independent core: Arcadian Antiques in suite 13, Caravan Gift Shop in unit 3, Parrish Fine Framing & Art at number 9 and Atomic Trading Co. at number 2, the vintage shop in the first unit inside the State Street entrance. All four run Tuesday to Saturday and all four are dark Sunday and Monday.

Arcadian Antiques: Tue-Sat 11am-5pm, closed Sun-Mon. Caravan Gift Shop: Tue-Sat 11am-5:30pm, closed Sun-Mon. Parrish Fine Framing: Tue-Sat 10am-5pm, closed Sun-Mon. Atomic Trading Co.: Tue-Fri 11am-5:30pm, Sat 11am-5pm, closed Sun-Mon. All four cited to Places. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Ten Fine Jewelry at number 10 is the clearest illustration of the two clocks anywhere in the district: 11am to 4pm, Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. Five hours a day. Arrive at half past four on a Friday, which on this street feels like the middle of the commercial afternoon, and the jeweller has been shut for thirty minutes while the kitchens have six hours left to run.

Regular hours: Mon-Sat 11am-4pm, closed Sun. Cited to Places. Phone (855) 600-4178. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Three tenants break the pattern and they are the three to rely on. Arcade Barbers at number 6 is the only business in the passage open seven days, and the only one that opens earlier on Sunday than on a weekday: 9am Sunday against 10am the rest of the week. Maison Edwards Tobacconist at number 11 runs 11am to 6pm six days and noon to 5pm Sunday, and publishes no website whatsoever, so (734) 662-4145 is the only way to ask it anything. Elmo’s T-Shirts & Gifts at number 17 keeps the shortest window in the building, noon to 5pm six days and noon to 3pm on Sunday.

Arcade Barbers: Mon, Wed-Fri 10am-7pm, Tue 10am-5pm, Sat 10am-4pm, Sun 9am-5pm. Maison Edwards: Mon-Sat 11am-6pm, Sun 12pm-5pm. Elmo’s: Mon-Sat 12pm-5pm, Sun 12pm-3pm. All cited to Places. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

One thing the arcade’s own Google entry gets wrong and worth knowing: it reports “Sunday: Open 24 hours”. The passage is a public right of way, so in a sense that is true. None of the shops inside it is open 24 hours, and eight of them are not open on Sunday at all. The building is walkable, the retail is not.

Two more doors on this block, both useful, neither obvious. Bon Bon Bon at 5 Nickels Arcade is the Detroit chocolate maker’s State Street counter, 11am to 7pm six days and noon to 6pm Sunday, which makes it the latest-closing retail door in the arcade. And University Flower Shop at number 7 runs 11am to 6pm Monday through Saturday and is closed Sunday, which is the kind of thing to learn before rather than after a Saturday-night decision about a Sunday apology.

Bon Bon Bon: Mon-Sat 11am-7pm, Sun 12pm-6pm. bonbonbon.com/visit lists several locations in one block and the Ann Arbor grid matches Places exactly. University Flower Shop: Mon-Sat 11am-6pm, closed Sun. Cited to Places; phone (734) 665-6037. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Monday is the day the district is least itself

Sixteen doors are shut all day on a Monday: eight kitchens and seven shops and services, plus the Kempf House museum. By comparison, Friday has exactly one closure in the entire district.

The eight closed kitchens are not the marginal ones. Mani Osteria at 341 E Liberty St and Knight’s Steakhouse at 600 E Liberty St are the two rooms you would book for an occasion, and both are closed Monday. So are Frank’s, Scorekeepers and Rick’s American Cafe.

Mani Osteria regular hours: Tue-Thu 4pm-10pm, Fri-Sat 12pm-10pm, Sun 12pm-9pm, closed Mon. Happy hour Tue-Thu 4-6pm, Fri-Sun 3-5pm. First-party, maniosteria.com, matching Places exactly. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Knight’s Steakhouse Downtown regular hours: Tue-Wed 11:30am-9pm, Thu-Fri 11:30am-10pm, Sat 9am-10pm, Sun 9am-9pm, closed Mon. Cited to Places; knightsrestaurants.com publishes no readable schedule. Phone (734) 887-6899. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Then there is the part that no restaurant list will tell you, because it is not about restaurants. All three University of Michigan museums in the district are closed on Monday. The Museum of Art at 525 S State St, the Museum of Natural History at 1105 N University Ave and the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology at 434 S State St all take Monday off together. Stamps Gallery at 201 S Division St goes further and takes Monday and Tuesday.

So a Monday visitor to the campus core loses the entire museum layer, the two best dining rooms and the diner, in one day. If your schedule is flexible by twenty-four hours, move it.

UMMA: Tue-Wed 10am-5pm, Thu-Fri 10am-8pm, Sat-Sun 11am-8pm, closed Mon. Museum of Natural History: Tue-Sun 10am-4pm, closed Mon. Kelsey Museum: Tue-Fri 10am-4pm, Sat-Sun 11am-4pm, closed Mon. Stamps Gallery: Wed 11am-5pm, Thu 11am-7pm, Fri-Sat 11am-5pm, closed Sun-Tue. All four cited to Google Places, because every umich.edu domain returns HTTP 403 to our server and we cannot read the first-party pages. Phones: UMMA (734) 764-0395, Natural History (734) 764-0478, Kelsey (734) 764-9304. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

The useful corollary: UMMA is the only museum here that opens in the evening, to 8pm Thursday through Sunday. Thursday is the one night of the week when you can see the art collection and then eat at the district’s 10pm median without rushing either.

Sunday: the kitchens are open, the shops are not

Twenty-eight doors are shut on a Sunday, which is the worst day of the week, and the closures are almost entirely on one side of the ledger. Eight of the 85 food businesses are closed. Twenty of the 55 retail and service businesses are closed.

That is the asymmetry to plan around. Sunday in the State Street District is a good day to eat and a poor day to buy anything. The shops that do open mostly open late and close early: the retail median on Sunday is 5:30pm, the earliest of the week.

Among the twenty Sunday closures are University Flower Shop, Arcadian Antiques, Caravan Gift Shop, Parrish Fine Framing, Atomic Trading Co., Ten Fine Jewelry, Stamps Gallery and Apples & Oranges at 8 Nickels Arcade, the computer and phone repair shop, which is closed Saturday and Sunday. At 4.9 from 747 reviews it is the best-rated business of any kind inside the arcade and it keeps bankers’ hours.

Apples & Oranges regular hours: Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, closed Sat-Sun. Cited to Places. Phone (734) 623-9000. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

If you are coming on a Sunday specifically to shop, the doors that will be open are Bivouac from 11:30am, Van Boven from noon, Wazoo from 10am, Bon Bon Bon from noon, Maison Edwards from noon, Elmo’s from noon to 3pm only, Rally House from 9am and The Dawn Treader from 11am. Eight addresses. Write them down, because the other nineteen on that street will not be there.

After ten, the district moves east

Thirty-nine doors are open at 10pm on a Friday and 25 at 10pm on a Sunday, so the district has a real night. What the medians hide is that the night is not on State Street.

Break the sweep down by sub-strip and the Friday closing times separate hard. The food layer on S State St closes at a median of 10pm and on E Liberty St at 10pm. On South University it is 2am, and on Church St it is 2am. That is a four-hour difference inside half a mile, and it is why the late end of a campus night always ends up in the same two blocks.

Eighteen doors in the district are open at or past 1am on a Friday. Church St accounts for four of them in a hundred feet: Pizza House at 618 Church St, which runs to 4am Friday through Sunday and is the latest door in the district by a margin; The Garage Bar in the same building; The Back Room at 605 Church St; and Rick’s American Cafe at 611, which opens at 7pm and closes at 2am Wednesday through Saturday, the latest opening of any venue in the district.

Pizza House regular hours: Mon 10:30am-12am; Tue-Thu 10:30am-12am plus a 12:30am-4am window; Fri-Sun 9am-4am. Cited to Places; pizzahouse.com publishes no readable schedule. Phone (734) 995-5095. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Rick’s American Cafe regular hours: Wed-Sat 7pm-2am, closed Sun-Tue. First-party, ricksamericancafe.com/ricks-ann-arbor: “Wednesday-Saturday : 7pm-2am”. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

South University accounts for most of the rest. Good Time Charley’s at 1140 S University Ave runs to 1am Sunday through Wednesday and 2am Thursday through Saturday, with one trap worth knowing: its own site says the regular menu stops at 10pm daily and the late-night menu at 11pm Sunday to Wednesday, so arriving at half past midnight on a Tuesday gets you a bar and no kitchen. BTB Burrito next door runs to 2:30am Thursday through Saturday. Brown Jug at 1204 is open to 2am every night of the week, which almost nothing else here manages. The Blue Leprechaun at 1220 closes at 2am Tuesday through Saturday. And Insomnia Cookies at 1229 is open to 3am Thursday through Saturday, the only sweet thing open past 2am anywhere in the district.

Good Time Charley’s regular hours: Mon 5pm-1am, Tue-Wed 3pm-1am, Thu-Fri 3pm-2am, Sat 10:30am-2am, Sun 5pm-1am. Door hours cited to Places; the kitchen cutoffs and the Tue-Fri 3-5pm happy hour are first-party, charleysannarbor.com. Phone (734) 668-8411. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Brown Jug regular hours: Mon-Sat 11am-2am, Sun 12pm-2am. Cited to Places. Phone (734) 761-3355. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

The Blue Leprechaun: published grid Tue-Wed 4pm-2am, Thu-Sat 11am-2am, Sun 12pm-12am. Its own homepage says 8am-2am daily and its own contact page says the above, so the two first-party pages disagree; we have published the later-opening one. All sources agree on the 2am close. Phone (734) 929-5944. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Two more that belong in the 1am group and are not bars. Pinball Pete’s at 500 E Liberty St, the basement arcade, is open 11am to 2am seven days a week, which is a longer daily window than any kitchen in the district. And Bodega Bros at 715 N University Ave is listed as open 24 hours, every day, making it the only round-the-clock food door in the district. That one is worth a phone call before you rely on it at 4am, because 24-hour claims are the least reliable field in any hours database: (734) 359-6610.

Pinball Pete’s regular hours: daily 11am-2am. Cited to Places; pinballpetes.org publishes no schedule. Phone (734) 213-2502. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Necto at 516 E Liberty St is the district’s one proper nightclub and the most restricted schedule of anything in the sweep: 9pm to 2am on Monday, Friday and Saturday, closed the other four nights. Three nights a week, five hours each.

Regular hours: Mon, Fri-Sat 9pm-2am, closed Tue-Thu and Sun. Cited to Places. Phone (734) 994-5835. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

The rooms in between

A handful of the district’s best kitchens sit squarely in the middle of both clocks, and they are the easy answers if you do not want to think about any of this.

HopCat at 311 Maynard St is the most reviewed business in the district by a distance, 11am to 11pm Monday through Wednesday, to midnight Thursday and Friday, and from 10am at weekends. Sava’s at 216 S State St opens at 9am seven days a week and runs to 10pm, 11pm on Friday and Saturday, which makes it the rare room here that genuinely serves all three meals. Ashley’s at 338 S State St is the beer bar, 11:30am to midnight and to 1am Friday and Saturday.

HopCat: Mon-Wed 11am-11pm, Thu-Fri 11am-12am, Sat 10am-12am, Sun 10am-11pm. Cited to Places; hopcat.com/ann-arbor publishes specials rather than door hours. Phone (734) 436-2875. Sava’s: Mon-Thu and Sun 9am-10pm, Fri-Sat 9am-11pm. Cited to Places. Phone (734) 623-2233. Ashley’s: Mon-Thu and Sun 11:30am-12am, Fri-Sat 11:30am-1am. Cited to Places. Phone (734) 996-9191. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Totoro at 215 S State St is the one to read carefully, because it runs a split service and takes Tuesday off: lunch 11:30am to 3pm, dinner 4pm to 10pm, closed Tuesday, and Sunday lunch starts at noon rather than 11:30. Its own site confirms every part of that, including the gap between three and four when the room is shut.

Regular hours: Mon, Wed-Sat lunch 11:30am-3pm and dinner 4pm-10pm; Sun lunch 12pm-3pm and dinner 4pm-10pm; Sat dinner to 9:30pm; closed Tue. First-party, totoroannarbor.com: “Lunch – Mon. & Wed. – Sat. 11:30 am – 3pm / Sun. 12pm – 3pm”, “Dinner – Mon. & Wed. – Sun. 4pm – 10pm”. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

Slurping Turtle at 608 E Liberty St is 11:30am to 10pm Monday through Thursday, 11pm Friday and Saturday, 9pm Sunday. Tomukun Korean BBQ at 505 E Liberty St keeps one schedule all week, 11:30am to 9:30pm. Pita Kabob Grill at 619 E William St runs to 11:30pm most nights and is closed Sunday.

Slurping Turtle: Mon-Thu 11:30am-10pm, Fri-Sat 11:30am-11pm, Sun 11:30am-9pm. First-party, slurpingturtle.com/annarbor, matching Places exactly. Tomukun: daily 11:30am-9:30pm, cited to Places, phone (734) 369-2602. Pita Kabob Grill: Mon-Tue and Thu-Sat 11am-11:30pm, Wed 11am-11pm, closed Sun. Cited to Places, phone (734) 622-8082. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

For something sweet before the kitchens close, Michigan Creamery at 302 S State St is 1pm to 11pm, every day, confirmed line by line on its own site. A 1pm opening is late for an ice cream shop and an 11pm close is late for anything on this block that is not a bar.

Regular hours: daily 1pm-11pm. First-party, michigancreamery.com, all seven days listed individually. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

And the two cinemas sit on the same clock as the kitchens rather than the shops. Michigan Theater at 603 E Liberty St runs 4pm to 10pm on weeknights, 3:30pm to 11:30pm Friday, 1pm to 11:30pm Saturday and 1pm to 10pm Sunday. The State Theatre at 233 S State St publishes no weekly grid at all, because its hours are whatever the screening schedule says that week. Check marquee-arts.org rather than guessing.

Michigan Theater: Mon-Thu 4pm-10pm, Fri 3:30pm-11:30pm, Sat 1pm-11:30pm, Sun 1pm-10pm. Cited to Places; the operator publishes showtimes rather than door hours. Phone (734) 668-8397. Verified 27 Oct 2026.

If you have one afternoon

Arrive at noon on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday. That is the answer, and the data is unambiguous about why.

Thursday has the fewest closures of any day with the full retail layer running: three doors shut against sixteen on Monday and twenty-eight on Sunday. Friday has one closure in the whole district and the highest door count at every hour from noon to 1am. Saturday loses eight doors but gains the gameday rhythm and the 10am openings.

Walk the arcade first, between noon and five, because it is the only part of the district with a hard early edge. Then State Street and Liberty for the shops that run to six or eight. Then eat, because the kitchens will still be there at ten whatever day it is.

And if the day you have is a Monday, go to Kerrytown instead and read our Kerrytown guide first, or stay downtown with the downtown Ann Arbor restaurants guide. State Street on a Monday is the one version of this district that will disappoint you.

How these hours were checked

Every schedule in this guide was pulled on 27 October 2026 and every number in it comes from that pull rather than from a previous version of this page.

The method: a Google Places text sweep of the district rectangle across 45 business-type queries, which returned 205 distinct places, 140 of them publishing a weekly schedule. University academic buildings, libraries, cash machines, parking structures and residential blocks were excluded from the arithmetic, because a guide about when shops are open should not count a lecture hall as a door. Food and drink were separated from retail and services using Google’s own primary-type field rather than our judgement, so the split is reproducible.

Venue websites were then checked against the Places grid wherever they were reachable. Nine matched exactly and are marked first-party above. Four conflicted or were internally inconsistent, and in every one of those cases we published the schedule whose failure mode is a missed option rather than a locked door, and said so in the text. Where no first-party schedule was readable, the hours are cited to Places and the phone number is printed, because a reader who can ring the shop does not need to trust us.

Hours change. If you find one of these wrong, the business’s own phone number is in the paragraph.

One night a year this district’s clock inverts. On Friday 4 December 2026, Midnight Madness keeps the State Street, Main Street and Kerrytown shops open from 5pm to midnight, against a retail close that never passes 7pm on any ordinary day. The times, and the rest of the December calendar, are in holiday lights near Ann Arbor.
